This year’s Desert Stars Festival promises to be a killer musical marathon desert experience, with performances from Lou Barlow, Black Angels, Dead Meadow, The Lemonheads, Swervedriver and more. The festival is celebrating its 9th year in Pioneertown on Sept 25th & 26th at Pappy & Harriets, a legendary roadhouse style venue.
DSF is one the first micro festivals of its type and is sighted as the inspiration for many other micro festivals like Levitation (Austin Psych Fest) started by the Black Angels. The event was funded by a successful Kickstarter campaign to bring a notable run of names to the Wild West ambience of Pappy & Harriet’s Pioneer Town Palace, a desert haunt two hours east of Los Angeles and near Joshua Tree National Park, that was once used as an Old Western movie set. An official Desert Stars statement:
Early on, our model was to put on the best event possible and donate any revenue we made to environmental charities. By the skin of our teeth each year we managed to do just that. Moving forward, our aim is to continue to support both our community of artists as well as find new ways to give back. Continuing the goal set forward in 2014, Proceeds from this year’s festival will go towards the purchase of a land trust in the region with the goal of creating a new home for the festival beginning in 2016 or 2017.
