With the Assassin’s Creed series having had its name dragged through the mud thanks to the performance issues suffered by Assassin’s Creed Unity, many were expecting Ubisoft to significantly up their games with the next entry in the series if they didn’t want its flagship franchise’s reputation damaged permanently. However, according to some who have previewed the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, at this stage the game is sharing some very similar technical problems.
A preview of the game from the fine folks over at Videogamer suggests that the game’s problems mirror those of Unity‘s, with it failing to reach even 30fps in some sections whilst also suffering from input lag. The outlet was given separate video footage recorded by Ubisoft to play alongside their video feature, though Videogamer stated that this footage ran much more smoothly than what they had experienced.
Check out their discussion regarding the game’s problems in the below video:
If these problems persist outside of the preview build of the game, then Assassin’s Creed on the whole is set to have some pretty big problems on its hands. Ubisoft have remained indebted to producing annual releases of the series, but if Assassin’s Creed Syndicate leads to complaints that echo those that were previously leveled at Unity, it seems likely that many will find themselves being worn out by the franchise and, in a worst case scenario for Ubisoft, it could lead to them resting the series in order to ensure that consumer fatigue doesn’t settle in.
However, other previews of the game, such as the one posted by Eurogamer, have not mentioned any performance problems. That isn’t to suggest that Videogamer’s comments on its technical issues are untruthful – they’re a very trustworthy source – but that something’s not quite right if outlets are having completely different experiences with preview build of the game.
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is set to be released on October 23rd for PS4 and Xbox One, so we can expect to find out much more regarding whether or not it continues to suffer from the same problems as Unity closer to that date.
