Last week, word emerged of a fierce bidding war between networks to get the rights to a Jack Ryan TV series. And today, Amazon Studios has emerged as the winner!
Deadline is reporting that Amazon has ordered Jack Ryan straight-to-series. Novelist Tom Clancy has used Jack Ryan as the lead character in several popular books that chart his development from CIA operative to President of the United States. The Jack Ryan TV series will be a reboot that uses Clancy’s novels as an inspiration as Ryan picks up the experience that will make him the ultimate hero in the Clancyverse.
The role of Jack Ryan was originated on screen by Alec Baldwin in The Hunt for Red October. Harrison Ford (pictured above) is the only actor to have played Ryan twice in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. Ben Affleck was the third Jack Ryan in The Sum of All Fears, and Chris Pine took over the role in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, the most recent attempt to revive the film franchise.
