Jack Black Goes Retro with a ‘Goosebumps’ Rap

Kids, did I ever tell you about that time when every movie had to end with a rap song about the events of the movie that preceded it? Preferably after the cast of the film performed a jumping high five while yelling the name of the movie and then freeze-framing in mid-air?

Those were GLORIOUS days. And it’s not surprising that the film that would take us back to that era would be Goosebumps, which already practically bubbles with nostalgia. The film, about all of the monsters from the Goosebumps novels coming to life at once, is a love letter to the 1990s era of children’s horror, when every fifth grader had a backpack overflowing with R.L. Stine books on the way to and from the library.

And yes, it has its own rap song, and it’s maybe the 11th or 12th best horror movie rap song we’ve ever heard!

Directed by Ben Mekler (Ruin the Internet Comedy), the music video for The Bumps Gonna Goose Ya features Jack Black, Slappy the Dummy, dancing ghosts and witches, and – of course – Malik Forté. The title of the song makes no sense, but then again neither did LL Cool J’s Deep Blue Sea rap, come to think of it. “Deepest, bluest, my hat is shark’s fin?” What the hell was he TALKING about?

Goosebumps hits theaters on October 16, and CraveOnline actually recommends it a lot.
