The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been incredibly underpopulated by female superheroes..,but that’s going to change next month when Jessica Jones becomes the first heroine to headline her own Marvel TV series on Netflix!
Much like her comic book counterpart, Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) used to be a superheroine. However, Jessica suffered a several trauma at the hands of Kilgrave (David Tennant), and now she’s an alcoholic private investigator who keeps getting sucked back into the superhero world that she left behind.
As a character, Jessica Jones is a relatively recent addition to the Marvel Universe who made her debut in the Alias comic book series by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos in 2001. Alias (no relation to the ABC TV series) was one of the few mature readers comic book series that Marvel has ever released, and those adult oriented themes will be carried over into the Jessica Jones series.
