In 2001, Marvel introduced readers to Jessica Jones, one of their most unconventional heroines to date. As conceived by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos, Jessica Jones was a fallen superheroine who reinvented herself as a private investigator. She was also a self-destructive woman who loved drinking a little bit too much, and she didn’t shy away from sex.
As fans at New York Comic Con can attest, the live-action Jessica Jones series contains all of those elements…and it may be the darkest story yet in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! Krysten Ritter stars in the series as Jessica Jones, with Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Rachael Taylor as Patsy “Trish” Walker, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeri Hogarth, and former Doctor Who star as Kilgrave, the man who sent Jessica Jones’ superhero career and her personal life into a downward spiral.

Marvel and Netflix have finally unleashed a full length trailer for the Jessica Jones series as she demonstrates her physical powers. But what good is that strength against a man who can bend anyone to his will? Kilgrave had Jessica Jones under his thumb, and now he’s back to once again make her life a living hell.
The 13 episode first season of Jessica Jones drops on Netflix on Friday, November 20. Next year, Colter will star in the Luke Cage series on Netflix before eventually reuniting with Jessica Jones during Marvel’s The Defenders miniseries in 2017.
