On July 20, 1969, man first walked on the moon. Or rather, that’s what they want us to think. There is a small (very small) number of people out there who think that the Apollo 11 moon landings were not only faked, but they were faked by 2001: A Space Odyssey director Stanley Kubrick. And now – finally – there is a movie made just for them.
Moonwalkers stars Rupert Grint (Harry Potter) as a rock band manager enlisted by a CIA agent (Ron Perlman) to enlist Stanley Kubrick in what would probably be the greatest trick ever pulled: convincing the world that Americans actually landed on the moon.
It’s a preposterous concept (almost as preposterous as, say, landing on the moon) that has been fodder for filmmakers before, most notably in Peter Hyams’ 1977 thriller Capricorn One. In that film it was the Mars landings that were actually faked, and the astronauts who are enlisted to help sell the lie are then targeted for assassination by the American government before they can prove they are still on Earth.
