West Ham midfielder Dmitri Payet will be out of action for three months following an injury picked up in the club’s match against Everton, a statement from the Hammers has confirmed.
“The France international had a scan on Sunday and after a consultation with a specialist on Monday, it is likely that he will be ruled out of action for three months,” the statement reads.
With Payet being the breakout star for the club since joining them on a five-year deal in June, his absence will be a huge blow to them as they look to continue their impressive run of form. Everton’s players seemed keen to dismantle the 28-year-old during their encounter, with James McCarthy committing the foul that injured the midfielder’s ankle, though McCarthy only received a yellow card for his disastrous challenge.

Many West Ham fans have now called for the FA to investigate the foul and Everton’s behaviour in general, suggesting that the club targeted Payet and intentionally took him out of the game.

Jack Sullivan, the son of the club’s co-owner David Sullivan, revealed his thoughts regarding the match on Twitter, tweeting: “Sadly Payet will be out for about 3 months! Huge miss for the team. How the Everton player didn’t get sent off amazes me!!”

West Ham are also awaiting Enner Valencia’s scan results, who may join Payet on the sidelines after also picking up an ankle injury in the Everton match.
