Jose Mourinho Could Be Sacked by Chelsea as the Club Discuss His Future

Jose Mourinho’s future at Chelsea is in jeopardy, as the board have reported questioned the manager’s position as the club continues to struggle this season.

Club owner Roman Abramovich staged talks regarding how the club can return to form, with Mourinho’s name being brought into the conversation. While it wasn’t an emergency meeting, they are said to be questioning who will be placed in charge of the club’s upcoming home game against Sunderland on Saturday.

While Abramovich said that he had confidence in Mourinho turning things around back in October, with the club continuing to fight just above the relegation zone, the club’s owners are desperate to see an improvement from both their manager and players. Following Chelsea’s 2-1 defeat against Leicester this past weekend, the 52-year-old criticised his players for failing to counter the threat of Vardy and Mahrez, two players he claimed he specifically mentioned prior to the game.

With there reportedly being a lot of tension between the players and their manager, it seems that Chelsea’s owners are now placing pressure on Mourinho, too. With the January transfer window just around the corner, Chelsea could well choose to keep Mourinho at his post in order to see whether he can turn around the club’s fortunes with a selection of new signings, an option which seems likely given the considerable lack of managerial talent currently available for the club.

With Chelsea currently sitting in 16th place in the Premier League table, they’re going to need to make some massive changes if they wish to escape the bottom half of the table any time soon. Despite the club’s previous assertions that Mourinho’s position was not being brought into question, at this point it seems that Mourinho could well wind up being one of these changes if his team’s fortunes do not improve.
