Star Wars: The Force Awakens reportedly contained a hidden reference to James Bond, some eagle-eyed Internet sleuths have pointed out.
We already knew that Daniel Craig, who has portrayed the British Secret Service Agent in his past few cinematic outings, appeared as a First Order Stormtrooper in the blockbuster sci-fi movie in a secret cameo. However, as pointed out by users on the Star Wars subreddit, the IMDb page for the film has an interesting name for the Stormtrooper the English actor portrays.
In the film’s cast list, it is stated that Craig plays the part of “Stormtrooper JB-007”, a clear reference to Bond and his 007 code number.

Though Craig was uncredited in the film, it has been confirmed that he did make an appearance alongside fellow English actor Simon Pegg, who played the role of Jakku junk dealer Unkar Plutt.
Though it had previously been rumoured that Craig had made an appearance in the film, he protested against the claims regarding his casting. However, director JJ Abrams told Entertainment Weekly that the Bond actor did indeed portray a Stormtrooper in the movie, and that he was actually the Stormtrooper who succumbed to Rey’s Jedi mind control tricks during one scene in the film.
While the IMDb listing could be inaccurate (Abrams didn’t confirm the actual name given to Craig’s Stormtrooper), we’d like to think that the galaxy far, far away does indeed contain a reference to Earth’s greatest fictional spy. If E.T. canon can successfully bleed into Star Wars, then we’re willing to accept that James Bond can, too.
