New The Walking Dead Midseason Trailer Drops The Ax

On February 14, 2016, The Walking Dead will emerge from its winter hiatus and resolve the cliffhanger that left Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and most of his fellow survivors trapped in the Alexandria safe zone when the walls came down. There’s no safety now, as the Walkers are everywhere.

The onslaught forced Rick try an old trick. After covering himself with zombie guts, Rick led a solemn procession of his son, Carl (Chandler Riggs), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam), Jessie (Alexandra Breckenridge), Ron (Austin Abrams), and Sam (Major Dodson).

However, Sam just couldn’t keep his mouth shut. That may have dire consequences when The Walking Dead returns. AMC has unleashed a new Walking Dead trailer that hints at a major turning point from the original comic book. And that means someone is gonna take an ax in the midseason premiere.

Full spoilers from the Walking Dead comic book are ahead! The TV series may go in another direction, but this is your last chance to stop reading before specific details are spilled.

In the comic, Sam was swarmed by walkers and his mother, Jessie was soon enveloped by the zombies as well. As she was devoured, Jessie had a death grip on Carl’s arm, which forced Rick to chop off her hand and leave her to die. Shortly thereafter, the Grimes family suffered an even bigger tragedy, and they most definitely did not emerge unscathed from the chaos.

Because The Walking Dead creative team likes surprising fans of the comic and the TV show, the person who gets the ax from Rick could be someone else. But the last moment of the trailer hints that the moment will arrive.
