The nominees for the Juno Awards have been announced, and The Weeknd is leading the pack with six nominations.
The artist, who was born Abęl Makkonen Tesfaye in Scarborough, Ontario, is up for the Juno Fan Choice Award, best album (for Beauty Behind the Madness), and songwriter of the year. Meanwhile, the Biebs (Justin Bieber) is up for five awards, and Shawn Mendes is up for four, as is Brampton native Alessia Cara. The Weeknd is also vying for artist of the year, running against Mendes, Bieber, Drake, and City and Colour.
Artists with three nominations each include Buffy Sainte-Marie (Songwriter of the Year, Aboriginal Album of the Year, Contemporary Roots Album of the Year), City and Colour (Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Jack Richardson Producer of the Year), Tobias Jesso Jr. (Breakthrough Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Adult Alternative Album of the Year), and Walk Off the Earth (JUNO Fan Choice, Group of the Year, Pop Album of the Year).
This year’s Juno Awards are being held in Calgary on Sunday, April 3rd to cap off Juno Week, which kicks off on March 28th.
