The second season of Marvel’s Daredevil is slated to drop next Friday, March 18 on Netflix. But it won’t be long until the next member of the Defenders gets his own series.
At the world premiere of Daredevil Season 2, Mike Colter announced that his Luke Cage series has a release date: September 30. “It’s going to be action-packed, from beginning to the very end,” said Colter in an interview with Marvel’s official Daredevil page. “Trust me. Daredevil premieres March 18, and I will see the fans on September 30th.”
While Luke Cage’s release date is earlier than Jessica Jones‘ November premiere last year, that doesn’t necessarily mean that a third Marvel series will hit Netflix this year. Jessica Jones got a late renewal for its second season and Iron Fist is only beginning to cast its leading roles. But if Netflix’s past is any indication, then Daredevil could get an early renewal for its third season. However, that would be likely to drop in 2017 or 2018.

Colter first appeared as Luke Cage on the Jessica Jones series, and he’s been one of the most prominent Marvel heroes of the last decade, including a memorable stint in the New Avengers comic book series.
Here’s Netflix’s description of the Luke Cage series, which takes place after the events of Jessica Jones.
“After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city–forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.”
Simone Missick costars in Luke Cage as Misty Knight, with Frank Whaley as Rafael Scarfe, Mahershala Ali as Cottonmouth, Theo Rossi as Shades, Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple.
