On The Blacklist, James Spader’s “Red” Reddington has a seemingly endless supply of criminals to target for his own purposes. And while The Blacklist won’t be ending anytime soon, NBC is already looking to create a potential spinoff series!
As reported by Deadline, Famke Janssen has been signed to portray a new character named Susan Halsted (a.k.a. “Scottie”) in two episodes of The Blacklist, with her second appearance in the May 12 episode serving as a backdoor pilot for a series centered on Scottie.
More importantly for Blacklist fans is that series regular, Ryan Eggold may also leave the show and reprise his role as Tom Keen alongside Jannsen on the new series. Eggold has been with The Blacklist since the very first episode of the series, and his character has been revealed to be more than he initially seemed.
Very little is known about the potential new spinoff, but the initial report suggests that Scottie and Tom will have a relationship dynamic that is similar to the one that Red and Liz have on The Blacklist. Plus, the spinoff series would allow NBC to have occasional crossovers between each show while separating Liz and her ex, Tom for the majority of the time.
Janssen is best known for starring in GoldenEye and in the X-Men film franchises, as well as the Netflix original series, Hemlock Grove. More recently, Janssen appeared on ABC’s How To Get Away With Murder.
NBC has never been shy about creating spinoffs for its most succsseful shows. At one point, there were four Law & Order series on the air! The network is also reportedly planning a third spinoff series for Dick Wolf’s Chicago franchise, which will be called Chicago Justice.
