People would often reveal their inner ugliness in Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s Preacher comic book series. Somehow, all of the worst parts of themselves had a tendency to come to the surface, and there’s no hiding from that.
And yet AMC seems determined to hide what Preacher is about even as it touts the series’ connection to the comic books that inspired it. The newest Preacher teaser from AMC finally hints at the horror aspect of the story, as a speaker warns that “something got loose.” And it’s going to change everything for Jesse Custer, the small town preacher played by Dominic Cooper.
What “got loose,” you may ask? Consider this your spoiler alert, because I’m going to tell you. “It” is Genesis, the off-spring of an angel and a demon, and it’s going to merge with Jesse and give him the power to command almost any being in creation. From there, all hell breaks loose and Jesse’s life is threatened by the forces of heaven and hell.
Eventually, the Preacher TV show will lineup with the comic and depict Jesse on a road trip to literally find God alongside his ex-girlfriend (and assassin) Tulip (Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun). The new teaser also includes a shot of Ian Colletti as Eugene, but Preacher fans know his character better by his other name: Arseface!
Preacher will debut on AMC on Sunday, May 22 at 10pm.
