Xbox One’s sales figures have reportedly been revealed, with eSports company Gfinity letting it slip that Microsoft’s console has sold 18 million units worldwide, a far cry from the 35.9 million PS4 units that have been sold.
Microsoft has avoided revealing the official sales figure for the Xbox One, though in November 2014 the company stated that 10 million units had been shipped to retailers. However, that figure doesn’t indicate the amount of units sold to consumers, so there has been a big question mark over the console’s sales numbers since its launch. If Gfinity’s number is accurate, then this indicates that the console has been drastically outperformed by the PS4, with Sony’s console having sold almost double the amount of units the Xbox One has shifted within the same time period.
It has been speculated that Microsoft could be working on an upgrade to the Xbox One, with this new console potentially set to be unveiled at this year’s E3. With Sony also reportedly working on a “PS4.5,” which is allegedly codenamed the “Neo,” it seems likely that Microsoft would follow suit.
There’s no official word from Microsoft regarding whether the 18 million figure is correct, though considering the radio silence from the company regarding the Xbox One’s sales, we shouldn’t expect to receive confirmation any time soon.
