Prince Album Sales Spike 16,000% Since His Death

Prince has received a massive sales spike in his albums and songs since his untimely death on April 21, with fans turning out in droves to celebrate the Purple One’s enormous musical contributions. Over 4 million copies of his music were sold in the U.S. over the last week, according to Nielsen Music.

On April 21 alone, the late icon sold 239,000 albums and 1.034 million song downloads, compared to just 5,000 albums and 14,000 song downloads in the tracking week before his death.

The top songs bought, according to the Nielsen Music data, were:

  • Purple Rain
  • When Doves Cry
  • Little Red Corvette

The most popular albums bought in the wake of Prince’s death were the greatest hits compilation The Very Best of Prince, his multi-platinum album Purple Rain, and another compilation album The Hits/The B-Sides.
