Hollywood has its new Jack Ryan: John Krasinski!
According to Deadline, Krasinski has joined Amazon Studios’ Jack Ryan series, and he will follow in the footsteps of previous Jack Ryans Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine. It should be noted that Affleck and Pine appeared as Jack Ryan in two different cinematic attempts to reboot the character in the modern age.
Jack Ryan was created by novelist Tom Clancy in 1990 for his novel The Hunt for Red October. Over the course of many books, Ryan went from CIA operative to director of the agency and even the President of the United States!
However, the Jack Ryan series will re-envision the title character as a much younger man as he works of the CIA. Carlton Cuse and writer Graham Roland co-created the new take on Jack Ryan, which will not be directly based on any of the novels. However, it will supposedly draw from several different sources as opposed to any single book.

Krasinski is best known for his starring role as Jim in The Office, and he recently starred in Michael Bay’s 13 Hours. Bay’s Platinum Dunes is also one of the production companies behind the new Jack Ryan series.
Deadline notes that Amazon has not yet greenlit Jack Ryan. but it’s considered a formality at this point. When Amazon picked up the development rights to Jack Ryan a few months ago, the rationale behind it was that it gave Amazon the unique ability to sell Tom Clancy’s novels and stream the previous Jack Ryan movies as well as the new series all in one place.
