Channel Nine are living up to their reputation for top quality original Australian content as it was announced today that Hamish & Andy are working on a new series for the network.
Following on from their previous smash hit shows Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year (2011), Hamish & Andy’s Euro Gap Year (2012), Hamish & Andy’s Caravan of Courage: Australia v New Zealand (2012), Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year Asia (2013) and Hamish & Andy’s Gap Year South America (2014), it’s anyone’s guess what they’ll be up to in the new series.
The fun-loving radio stars announced the new show this morning on The Today Show, speaking live from the South Pacific where they are hosting their radio show live from what they have dubbed “The People’s Cruise”. They’ve even brought along the listeners of their top-rating radio program.
Still as for what the show would actually entail, the fresh-faced media idols remained tight-lipped, instead getting wasted and making weak sauce puns about how much the boat “rocks”.
Hamish Blake did, however, say that the duo are “rapt to be continuing our journey with the Nine Network and we’re going to spend the rest of the cruise working tirelessly to invent a new cocktail to celebrate the occasion.”
Hard at work then.
Michael Healy, Director of Television for the Nine Network, however, was more willing to give some details.
“Hamish and Andy are unique talent in Australia and we’re privileged to enjoy a longstanding relationship with them” he said, adding that the duos’ production team Radio Karate would be producing the show again and that they “have now created a bold and exciting new concept that we’re excited to bring to the Nine audience in 2017.”
With the Gap Year series winning the TV Week Logie Award for Most Popular Light Entertainment Program in 2012 and 2014 and Most Popular Entertainment Program in 2015 (among others), a new series from the pair is sure to be something the Nine audience want too.
In the meantime, check out the boys making the announcement on the Today show here.
