Since there are so many stories of teachers hooking up with their students, it’s only right that we tell you about one that has a bit of a twist. So let’s all talk about former Georgia teacher Therese Gunn.
The 54-year-old music teacher who taught at South Gwinnett High School recently admitted in court that she was in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student — with some of the hook-ups occurring on school property. Happens all the time, right? Right. But it’s what she said in court that has people talking. Gunn blamed the student for the sexual relationship because he was “like a used car salesman.” Wow.
The “used car salesman” explanation didn’t keep Gunn from prison, though, as she was sentenced to 90 days in prison and 10 years probation.
“I don’t find that you’re the kind of person that needs to be warehoused for years,” Gwinnett County Superior Court Judge Warren Davis reportedly said. “We get those cases and we get them out of society as long as we can. You’re not one of those. But you clearly betrayed the trust that you had of parents, this parent, putting this child in your care.”
Gunn and her actions were discovered after the student’s mother found her son’s diary because apparently 17-year-olds still keep diaries. The student revealed to the court that Gunn “made [his] adolescence a living hell.”
And now we wait for the next news story of a teacher hooking up with a student.
