The first trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi has finally been unveiled to the world, which means that it’s only a matter of time before the internet co-opts the material. Such was the case for the upcoming Obi-Wan series, resulting in arguably the fastest trailer-to-meme conversion rate to date.
In the trailer, we see Obi-Wan keeping a watchful eye on child Luke Skywalker from a distance. There’s a shot of the titular character looking through his Macrobionoculars, then a shot of the Lars compound, which features an obvious reference to Luke’s Podracing heritage. Then we cut back to Obi-Wan’s reaction, which features a blank expression on his face.
It didn’t take long for the patrons of Twitter dot com to realize the meme potential from the trailer. And thus, the new gold standard for criticizing new Star Wars content was born. While some might say that this new meme format will be played out sooner rather than later, the fact of the matter is that it is here to stay. A decade from now, this hilarious new Obi-Wan meme will likely stand the test of time when it comes to new Star Wars content.
