Preview: Transformers: Robots in Disguise #19

Once, he was Optimus Prime, revered leader of the Autobots. However, in the new post-war Cybertron, there was no place for him. So he left his home and took his original name of Orion Pax, rather happy to be able to leave his old war-torn life behind and start remembering who he used to be… who he wants to be. Of course, that doesn’t mean his sense of responsibility went anywhere, as evidenced by the fact that he’s now leading an odd group of folks in pursuit of a renegade Cybertronian mad scientist named Jhiaxus.

As this preview of Transformers: Robots in Disguise #19 below shows us, though, Orion’s journey is going to be introducing the characters from the much-beloved 90s animated series Beast Wars into the normally Generation 1 mix. Widely considered the best-written of Transformers animated series, it’s unfortunately saddled with 90s-era CG animation that turns some people off (plus, Optimus was a gorilla). However, given that IDW’s current comic series – RiD and More Than Meets The Eye (aka MTMTE) – are some of the best TF fiction ever, Beast Wars fans may rejoice that Waspinator will be appearing in tomorrow’s new issue. That’s right. Waspinator!
