Comic-Con 2013: Fans Get First Footage From Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Marvel Studios took the Comic-Con opportunity Saturday to roll out the first new footage from Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

And if the footage we saw was any indication, it’s gonna be a bit of a curveball for moviegoers used to Marvel’s superheroic formula forged from the first Iron Man through Iron Man 3.

As Crave’s movie site /Film reports, the scenes shown to the Hall H crowd gave the Captain America sequel a tone and feel more in tune with a political thriller than a superhero slugfest.

Stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johannson (whose Black Widow is practically the co-lead, according to directors Anthony and Joe Russo), Samuel L. Jackson, Anthony Mackie, Emily Van Camp, Cobie Smulder and Sabastian Stan were on-hand as part of Marvel’s panel, which also offered up new details on the forthcoming Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy.

Moments after the panel, Marvel also released concept art from the film (seen above), showing Captain America and former Bucky-turned-super-assassin the Winter Soldier going mano-y-mano.

Head over to /Film for a full run-down on the panel.  Captain America: The Winter Soldier opens April 4, 2014.
