NBC Executives met the Television Critics Association today to discuss their new fall slate. NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt also answered a question about bringing “Revolution”’ to Austin, Texas for its second season. “Revolution” filmed in North Carolina its first season.
“They’re deep in production in Austin,” said Greenblatt. “This is a nomadic show, and, if you follow the episodes, I don’t believe there are any standing sets for this show. So it is constantly on the move and usually out in the middle of sort of the environs. It was North Carolina this past season and I think the show looked at that area the producers, Eric [Kripke] and J.J. [Abrams] and said, ‘We really think we’ve mined a lot of the great exterior locations here.’ And creatively the show moves to Texas in the second season. So they thought and Warner Bros. agreed that it would be great to move the show to Austin for a different sort of backdrop.”
After the panel, I approached NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke to ask what veteran producer, Rockne S. O’Bannon will bring to “Revolution” after being hired to join showrunner Kripke for the second season.
“We’re just excited to have [O’Bannon] on board,” noted Salke. “I haven’t seen exactly what’s going to come from that. When you have an event like that and you have to jump off on another huge amount of episodes, just trying to reinvent it and bring in new characters and keep the story changing and turning, and the location.”
O’Bannon is best known for creating “Farscape” and overseeing the first season of Syfy’s “Defiance.” O’Bannon’s most recent show was “Cult;” which was canceled after a brief run on The CW.
