Last week, word broke that Amanda Waller would make her first appearance on “Arrow” during the sixth episode of its second season. This week, the role has been filled.
TV Guide broke the news that Cynthia Addai-Robinson has signed on to play Amanda Waller, one of the top leaders of A.R.G.U.S. ( Advanced Research Group United Support); which has been called DC’s answer to Marvel’s S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. As in the DC universe, Waller will be in charge of the Suicide Squad, a covert team made up of mercenaries and blackmailed supervillains.
In Waller’s first episode, she reportedly orders the abduction John Diggle (David Ramsey) because of Diggle’s vendetta against Deadshot (Michael Rowe), who is now working for Waller. Prior to “Arrow,” Waller was played by Angela Bassett in the Green Lantern movie, Pam Grier in Smallville and CCH Pounder in “Justice League Unlimited.”
Addai-Robinson is best known for playing the slave turned warrior woman, Naevia on two seasons of “Spartacus.” Addai-Robinson has also appeared in “King & Maxwell,” “The Vampire Diaries,” “NCIS: Los Angeles,” “FlashForward,” “Life” and “Dirt.”
“Arrow” Season 2 will premiere on Wednesday, October 9, on the CW.
