Ladies and gentlemen, Barry Allen has arrived.
Just a few weeks after announcing their intent to introduce the man who will be The Flash on “Arrow,” the CW has cast Grant Gustin as Barry Allen (via TV Guide).
As previously reported, Barry Allen will appear in three episodes of “Arrow” this season. His first appearances will be in episodes 8 and 9 of “Arrow” Season 2 before returning in episode 20 to make his debut as The Flash. Episode 20 will also serve as a backdoor pilot for a “Flash” TV series that could debut in the fall of 2014.
Gustin is best known for playing Sebastian Smythe on “Glee,” in addition to his roles in “90210,” “CSI Miami,” “A Haunting” and the TV movie A Mother’s Nightmare.
“Arrow” executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg will reteam with DC Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns for the episodes that bring Barry Allen into the world of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell).
Prior to The Flash’s debut as a superhero, “Arrow” has not depicted with superpowers. Earlier in the summer, Kriesberg told the press that “when we first meet Barry Allen, he’s just a forensic scientist working for Central City Police Department. He’s just an ordinary man when we meet him. As we always do on ‘Arrow,’ we’re trying to keep it grounded and realistic as possible. That is the way the audience will be introduced to Barry and get to know him before life gets a little bit faster.”
“Arrow” Season 2 kicks off on October 9 on the CW.
