Tech Squibs: Ballistic, Seidio Have Your Galaxy S4’s Back

SQUIB: a : a short humorous or satiric writing or speech; b : a short news item. (Merriam-Webster)

This Tech Squib loves your Samsung Galaxy S4 and wants no harm to come to it.

With the S4 now ambitiously chipping away at the iPhone’s market share, companies that make accessories and protective gear are working overtime to make products for its ever-growing pool of owners. For our purposes here, we’re looking at a couple top efforts from Ballistic and Seidio.

Ballistic has a hug around your S4 with its SG series case (above). The SG offers three stages of protection — featuring a case around your phone with softer, rubberized protective materials wrapping around that case. Those layers pack on extra corner protection and make sure your device doesn’t grip off any surface when set down.

The most important feature of the $49.99 SG is that its corner protection creates a natural space between the phone’s screen and any surface it might hit if laid down flat. A cracked screen is any smartphone’s downfall, and the SG’s main function is to present that.

At $34.95, the Ledger protects the phone and its screen — even turning the display off when closed. It can even serve as a wallet with internal slots for ID or credit cards. Of course, cut out sections keep the speaker ports and connector areas open and clear.

If the Ledger doesn’t seem like quite enough to put your mind at ease, another $39.95 will snag you some Seidio Vitreo Glass Screen Guards. Made from high grade tempered glass designed for impact resistance, it simply clamps down clearly and cleanly on your device like any clear plastic screen guard. If something does ding your glass, the idea is the Vitreo will take the crack for your screen.

No matter which of the steps you take above, these manufacturers will keep your S4 pristine while it chases iPhone around the cell phone jungle.
