The Chucky Files #1: Don Mancini on Child’s Play

Child’s Play, a.k.a. “The Chucky Movies,” are quite possibly unique amongst the long-running horror franchises. The series was created by screenwriter Don Mancini, and he stayed with on board the entire time, writing with every single sequel and directing the last two: Seed of Chucky and Curse of Chucky

With the 25th anniversary of Child’s Play upon us, and the release of the sixth film of the franchise as part of a big Chucky: The Complete Collection Blu-ray box set, we thought it was the perfect time to sit Don Mancini down for a series of extended interviews about each film in the franchise, and answer all our biggest questions about Chucky. We’re calling it The Chucky Files.

Join The B-Movies Podcast host William “Bibbs” Bibbiani as he interrogates Don Mancini about every film in the Child’s Play series, starting with Tom Holland’s original. Don Mancini goes in-depth about his very different original draft, originally titled Batteries Not Included (later, Blood Buddy), his issues with the finished film and his experience going from a UCLA Film School undergrad to the creator of a hit horror franchise.

Tomorrow, Don Mancini will explain why Child’s Play 2 is closer to the film he wanted to make in the first place. We’ll see you there when The Chucky Files continue!
