NYCC 2013: The Avengers All-New Marvel NOW Panel Report

Following The Avengers movie, we now live in a world in which The Avengers is a bigger brand than the X-Men for Marvel. At New York Comic-Con, Marvel continued the Avengers’ dominance with a number of new titles.

Foremost among them will be Avengers World, a new monthly series by Jonathan Hickman, Nick Spencer and Stefano Caselli; which will be Hickman’s third ongoing Avengers series. However, Hickman’s Avengers will be dropping down to one issue per month. New Avengers will continue and tie into the Inhumanity event.

Avengers World will feature the entire roster of The Avengers in a single book, with the panel promising to “spread the love” around rather than just focus on the movie roster. Hickman credited Spencer with coming up with the concept of Avengers World. Spencer added that the book will also explore the Post-Infinity Earth. He also hinted that the book would have a more international setting, but added that it was not a riff on The Ultimates.

While Avengers Arena is ending, a sequel series is coming in the form of Avengers Undercover by the returning creative team of Dennis Hopeless and Kev Walker. A few of the Avengers Arena survivors will infiltrate Baron Zemo’s Masters of Evil to bring down that organization while dealing with their PTSD.

In a surprise announcement, Loki will be getting his own series called Loki: Agent of Asgard, with Al Ewing attached to write. Note that the cover image featured an older Loki who looked very much like Tom Hiddleston. Nathan Edmondson and Phil Noto are working on a new Black Widow series.

Secret Avengers is getting a relaunch with Ales Kot and Michael Walsh that focuses on Spider-Woman, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Phil Coulson, Nick Fury, Jr. and a mystery member.

Hickman and a few of the other panelists appeared to be puzzled by Marvel’s All-New Marvel Now numbering system that makes Avengers # 24 into Avengers All-New Marvel NOW # 1. Captain America, Thor and Avengers A.I. will all feature the Marvel NOW and All-New Marvel NOW numbering as they launch new storylines.

More Marvel announcements will follow throughout the weekend.
