And bringing some of that science into the gym is the new Rhythm Smart + from Scosche . Just unveiled at CES 2014, it’s an armband heart rate monitor you wear on your forearm that optically measures blood flow and movement to calculate your heart rate and calories burned.
Wirelessly pair it with your smartphone, sport watch or exercise equipment (from up to 100 ft. away) to beam info on how you’re doing to the most popular fitness apps including RunKeeper, Map My Fitness, Strava and all other programs that support Bluetooth Smart heart rate monitors.
With the onboard memory you can workout in freeRUN mode without having to lug your device with you. But if you do take it along, the Rhythm Smart + has built-in controls, so you can adjust volume and control tracks without interrupting your workout to take out your phone.
In case you’re one of those “heavy sweaters” or hardcore, even-in-the-rain runners, the Rhythm Smart + can handle the moisture. It’s waterproof to one meter.
