Things have been going a little too well for Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner). Now living together, the Pilates-loving vegetarian Blutbad and the former drug addict-turned-herbalist Fuchsbau have had a relatively smooth run leading up to Monroe’s “cuckoo” proposal in this episode. That is until Monroe’s parents burst on the scene to screw it all up.
After a pricey dinner at a Portland hotspot, Monroe uses one of his clocks to propose to Rosalee, as a little bird holding a ring pops out repeating, “will you marry me?” Not surprisingly, Rosalee says “yes” and questions regarding Monroe’s family and the wedding immediately start coming up. Monroe reaches out to his folks, who bombard him with inappropriate questions about Rosalee though they seem well meaning enough. But the one question they forget to ask turns out to be the most important. Is she a Blutbad?
While Monroe and Rosalee prepare for his parents impending arrival, Nick (David Giuntoli) and Hank (Russell Hornsby) deal with a case involving a serial killer Wesen who targets police officers and soldiers for their scalps. A little research at the trailer reveals that the “Berserker” Wesen sews the scalps into a cloak which when worn, gives them the power of their defeated enemies. Nick might not wear a uniform, but Hank suspects the Berserker will be coming for him, soon enough.
In Vienna, Adalind (Claire Coffee) meets with Prince Viktor (Alexis Denisof), who questions her about the men he believes Renard sent to kill Eric. Adalind admits to getting a note from Renard, but tells Viktor it had to do with Nick killing her mother. Meanwhile, Sebastian (Christian Lagadec) calls Renard (Sasha Roiz) with an update on the situation. Renard suggests he reach out to Meisner, one of the men Viktor holds responsible for Eric’s death. Later that night, Adalind suffers intense pain as her baby appears to try and claw it’s way out of her womb. She meets with Stefania (Shohreh Aghdashloo), who suggests she go into hiding so as not to arouse Viktor’s suspicion.
Back in Portland, Juliet (Bitsie Tulloch) reaches out to Nick’s mom who responds with a cryptic message to her son; she’s hidden the coins somewhere and is headed north to meet with members of the resistance. Nick is concerned about Juliet getting in the middle, but as she reminds him, bad things happen when she’s kept out of the loop.
All this business overseas with magic coins and royal babies is hard to get excited about, as right now it’s mostly just a lot of talk. But back in Portland, there’s plenty of drama to tide us over when Monroe’s parents, Alice and Bart freak out after learning that Rosalee is a Fuchsbau. Monroe, who hasn’t exactly been forthcoming with his parents about his fiancée, is shocked to learn they still hold on to such old ways of thinking regarding inter-Wesen romance, but Alice and Bart are certain the relationship will end in disaster. Having heard enough, Rosalee leaves just as Nick shows up to top her act when they realize he’s a Grimm.
The two-parter leaves us wondering about the future of Monroe and Rosalee’s relationship and more immediately, if Nick will make it out of Monroe’s house without killing his parents. The way things are going, neither Monroe nor Rosalee would probably be too upset.
