“Mob City” was supposed to be Frank Darabont’s triumphant return to TV after getting forcefully removed from “The Walking Dead” midway through its second season. However, “Mob City’ won’t be coming back for a second season of its own.
TNT has officially announced that “Mob City” won’t be continuing. In a brief statement, the network said “Mob City was created as a three-week television event and we are incredibly proud of the six hours we presented of this remarkable drama. Although the ratings of the limited series haven’t warranted more hours we are eager to work with Frank Darabont again and were delighted to bring the vibrant world of Mob City to life.”
Looking back, TNT did “Mob City” few favors by dumping all six episodes in December, which is traditionally a weak month for TV viewership. “Mob City” debuted to decent numbers with 2.3 million viewers for the first two episodes. But the subsequent decline in viewership sealed the show’s fate despite a cast that included Jon Bernthal, Ed Burns, and Neal McDonough.
Back in November, Darabont was linked to a possible TV miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Mist,” which Darabont had previously adapted as a feature film. Darabont was also one of the screenwriters on the forthcoming Godzilla remake which is slated for a theatrical release on May 16.
