The U.S. women’s hockey team lost a heartbreaker in the gold medal game Thursday in Sochi after Canada scored twice in the third period and once in overtime for a 3-2 victory. Now President Barack Obama owes Canadian Prime Minster Stephen Harper a case of beer. The good news is there is room for redemption.
A wager was made by the two country leaders previous to Thursday’s women’s matchup; whomever wins each game owes the other a case of beer — one from the women’s game and one following Friday’s men’s semi-finals matchup between the two countries.
“For a very brief period of time, I may not feel as warm towards Canadians as I normally do, at least until those matches are over,” Obama told Harper while both were at a leaders’ meeting in Mexico on Thursday, according to Yahoo.
Harper already called out Obama following Canada’s big win Thursday after the initial bet was announced on Twitter.
I look forward to watching the game later and @barackobama, I look forward to my case of beer. #Sochi2014 #WeAreWinter @HC_Women

There’s already a big push that the ante should be raised — the loser suffering the permanent ownership of Justin Bieber. I would also add Dennis Rodman into the trade.
UPDATE: With the 0-1 men’s loss to Canada Friday, President Obama now owes Mr. Harper two cases of beer.
