Marvel Adds Audio and Video to Digital Comics

At SXSW last weekend, Marvel Comics announced that they are going to be adding sound and video features to their Marvel Unlimited app for digital comics. The “Augmented Reality” video segments that you previously needed a separate app for will now be integrated into the digital comic, and composer David Ari Leon and his SoundMind Music, which has scored previous Marvel Motion Comics animated series and the film Thor: Tales of Asgard, has been brought in to craft music for them – not just a looping score, but adaptive music experiences tailored to the individual reader, whether they linger on panels or page through it quickly.

Get a sample of the audio experience right here.

And a video sample is here, which have launched with Jonathan Hickman’s Avengers series and access to over 20 videos.

To further plug this, Marvel is giving away Captain America #8 (Ed Brubaker style) with the audio enhancements and Avengers #1 with the video stuff for free via Marvel Unlimited. That’s good comics!

Here’s a special offer blurb as well for a deal that lasts until 3/14: “Marvel is also celebrating SXSW Interactive 2014 by offering fans access to nearly 15,000 of Marvel’s greatest comics, for an entire month, for only 99 cents!* Fans can access some of the most important stories in pop culture history while online, and take twelve digital comics with them on the go, even when offline! Use the promo code SXSW99” It’s one of those auto-renewal things – you sign up for 99 cents and then it bills you normally for the service after the first month. Also, it doesn’t apply to people already subscribing to Marvel Unlimited.

Still, interesting stuff!
