It's tradition for a rookie player to keep the puck used to score his first NHL goal.
Of course, that assumes everybody realizes a goal WAS the first biscuit-in-the-basket for an NHL rookie. And apparently, nobody gave linesman Lonnie Cameron the memo Wednesday night while he officiated the Calgary Flames-Anaheim Ducks matchup.
As reported by Crave sports site NESN, Flames rookie Corban Knight tallied his first score late in Calgary's 7-2 win…but as the above video shows, while the 23-year-old celebrated his personal achievement, Cameron unwittingly grabbed the puck and flipped it to a young fan in the stands.
Check out the below video to see how the situation resolved itself (we don't want to spoil it for ya), but suffice it to say, everybody ended up happy.
