For over 10 years, Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming’s creator owned comic book “Powers” has languished in development hell. The closest that “Powers” has come to actually happening was a TV pilot that was produced at FX featuring Jason Patric (pictured above), Lucy Punch and Charles S. Dutton.
However, Deadline is reporting that “Powers” is finally going to series through Sony Pictures TV on PlayStation Network as the first original drama produced for the platform. Bendis, Oeming and novelist Charlie Huston are still attached to “Powers” as executive producers alongside Michael Dinner and “Falling Skies” veteran, Remi Aubuchon. Bendis and Huston will be the showrunners.
Originally published in 2000, “Powers” takes place in a world in which superpowers are commonplace. The series focuses on a former superhero named Christian Walker and his partner, Deena Pilgrim as they investigate superhuman crimes and murders.
“Powers” Season 1 will reportedly run for 10 episodes and production will likely begin later this year. Last year, Microsoft announced its own original drama for XBox Live based on the Halo video game series, but that project has yet to materialize. It should be interesting to see which series will be released first.
