Patton Oswalt is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Marvel has announced that Oswalt will appear in an upcoming episode of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” as Agent Eric Koening, a minor character who originally appeared as in Sgt. Fury and His Howling Commandos, a comic book series that followed Nick Fury’s exploits during World War II. However, Koening’s character is highly unlikely to have the same background on the show.
“When they first told me the character’s name, I’ll admit the first thing I did is I went on Wikipedia and looked up the M.O.D.O.K. character to see if Koenig was maybe his name before he became M.O.D.O.K., but it wasn’t,” joked Oswalt. “They keep on talking about the Clairvoyant in the show and I’m like, ‘is that M.O.D.O.K.? Am I M.O.D.O.K.?”
Oswalt has previously appeared in numerous TV series including “King of Queens,” “Justified,” “Parks and Recreation,” “Community,” “United States of Tara,” “Caprica” and “The Newsroom.” Oswalt was also the lead character in the animated film, Ratatouille.
An airdate for Oswalt’s appearance in “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” has not yet been announced.
