Fox Eyeing Potential Mystique Spinoff Film?

Considering there’s no more buzzed-about star in the world right now than Jennifer Lawrence, it seems like any Hollywood studio or creative type should be doing everything in their power to hitch their wagon to a Jennifer Lawrence project.

And when you’ve already got the “It Girl” as part of your giant tentpole superhero ensemble franchise, the prospect of a standalone spinoff film with said “It Girl” would seem like the no-brainer idea of the millenium.

Hence, the writer of the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past is talking publicly about what everybody at Fox should have been thinking about anyway: a Mystique solo movie.

As screenwriter Simon Kinberg tells Entertainment Weekly — in a quote also distributed by Crave film site SuperHeroHype — he’d love to sink his teeth into a Lawrence-led vehicle focused on the X-verse’s nastiest shapeshifter.

“I love what Jen Lawrence has done with her, and I feel like because she is in such a crowded ensemble, there’s so much more opportunity if you were to follow her solo.”

So, is Nightcrawler’s mom gonna get her own flick or what?  Of course, Lawrence, her busy schedule and the exact size of Fox’s paycheck for said solo film would all seem to be the biggest factors in whether a Mystique movie happens or not, but it’s an interesting idea at least.

We’ll have to see if Fox has any room for more Mystique between X-Men: Apocalypse, the third Wolverine solo film, a rebooted Fantastic Four and several other long-rumored projects like an X-Force movie.
