Discovery’s Epic Everest Jump Live To Air May 11

Discovery Canada announced yesterday that it will broadcast “Everest Jump Live,” an epic two-hour event chronicling climber Joby Ogwyn’s journey to the summit of Mt. Everest as he battles the gruelling conditions and ultimately takes the plunge from the top wearing a wingsuit equipped with cameras.

Ogwyn’s custom-made wingsuit will be equipped with cameras bringing a bird’s eye view as he descends more than 3048 vertical meters at speeds of over 241 kph. Up-to-the-minute weather patterns will be monitored during the week by the “Everest Jump Live” team.

Viewers will also have an opportunity to take part in the live broadcast by joining in the conversation with social media updates and can ask live questions from Ogwyn each night leading up to the jump. Social media questions will be sourced from the audience around the world who will have the opportunity to interact with Ogwyn and the production team. The live broadcast will capture the global social media conversation in new ways by looking at real-time data and reporting on who’s watching, in what countries and what they’re saying to support Ogwyn in his trek. Live cameras will also be in place at Everest Base Camp that can be viewed 24/7 at www.EverestJumpLive.com

“Everest Jump Live” premieres on Sunday, May 11th at 8pm (weather permitting), with a one-hour countdown special called “Everest: Live From Base Camp,” which will take viewers behind the scenes of the most challenging and complicated live broadcast ever attempted. The monumental jump will follow at 9pm on Discovery.
