DC Reveals The Fate of Dick Grayson

During Forever Evil, things were looking pretty bad for Nightwing. Batman’s first Robin found himself beaten and unmasked as Dick Grayson in front of the entire world by the Crime Syndicate, before a bomb was implanted in his body and Lex Luthor appeared to smother him to death.

But what really made fans worry was the fact that the Nightwing ongoing series was canceled. However, DC has confirmed the rumors that Dick Grayson will survive… even if he’s not Nightwing anymore.

Over at USA Today, the announcement was made that a new comic called Grayson will follow Dick Grayson as he steps away from superheroics and becomes a secret agent working for Spyral; which is an organization that first appeared in Grant Morrison’s Batman, Incorporated.

The catch is that the world will believe that Dick Grayson was killed during the events of Forever Evil. Only Batman knows the truth, which he isn’t sharing with Alfred, Batgirl and the other extended members of the Bat-family in order to protect the fiction of Grayson’s death.

Tim Seeley will be co-writing Grayson with former CIA counterterrorism operations officer, Tom King. Mikel Janin will be the artist of Grayson, and he also designed the new costume that Dick Grayson will wear in this series.

“[Dick Grayson is] doing something that’s going to cause pain to his friends and family,” explained King. “But he believes in the cause. That tension between having to do something good but having the cost of it being pain to his family, it drives him a little crazy.”

King also added that “He’s always been a character who hasn’t had a villain associated with him. We want to give him his Lex Luthor, his Joker.”

Grayson # 1 will be released on July 2.
