While it’s not on hand in its newest form at NYIAS 2014, the new Lexus NX Compact is making news around the automotive world by bringing a new kind of engine to the Japanese automaker.
The NX crossover offers the first Lexus-built gasoline turbo engine in an effort to balance excellent fuel economy with the kind of acceleration and driving precision Lexus buyers expect.
That turbocharged power plant will be available in the U.S. market when the NX arrives for the 2015 new car season, along with a hybrid engine. Buyers will also be able to select an F SPORT version with extra interior and exterior trim features and sporty performance.
In an era in which automakers are turning heavily to turbochargers to make smaller, more fuel efficient engines as powerful as their predecessors, Lexus is introducing its first smaller, turbo enhanced gas engine in its first car within the luxury compact crossover class.
The NX 200t F SPORT will include a mesh grille insert, aggressive front bumper, machined-finish wheels, black exterior mirrors, interior ornamentation, paddle shifters and sport seats.
The Lexus NX will arrive in showrooms go on sale around the world in mid-late 2014.
