If it weren’t funny enough, The Comedy Network just got funnier: “Jimmy Kimmel Live” premieres exclusively in Canada on the channel this fall.
The announcement was made this week by Phil King, President of CTV, Sports, and Entertainment Programming, at the 2014 #CTVUpfront presentation. The late-night talk show, now in its 12th season, is set to follow “The Daily Show With Jon Stewart” weeknights at 11:35pm, in simulcast with ABC beginning in September. The addition of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” adds to Comedy’s strength in late night, where it is currently the #1 entertainment specialty network during “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report,” with almost twice the audience of the closest entertainment specialty competitor in the timeslot.
“Jimmy Kimmel’s brand of cheeky humour is the perfect fit for Comedy’s share-worthy, late-night lineup,” said Catherine MacLeod, Senior Vice-President of Specialty Channels and Bell Media Production. “Adding Jimmy to our already hilarious roster truly makes Comedy the funniest place in town.”
Kimmel, who got his start co-hosting such hit shows as Comedy Central’s “The Man Show” and the game show “Win Ben Stein’s Money,” got his own late-night show back in 2011. He’s also worked as a producer for a number of projects including “Crank Yankers,” “Sports Show with Norm Macdonald,” and “The Andy Milonakis Show.”
In a taped message presented at the 2014 #CTVUpfront, Kimmel humorously credited Toronto mayor Rob Ford for bringing him to Canada and suggested to the audience of ad buyers they might be interested in purchasing advertising space on his body.
