Before joining the cast of “Game of Thrones” for the fourth season as Prince Oberyn Martell, Pedro Pascal had a reputation as a very dependable supporting actor. But after Pascal’s memorable performance on “Game of Thrones,” he will finally star in his own drama series.
Deadline is reporting that Netflix has cast Pascal in “Narcos,” which is based upon the real story of the drug war in South America as the cocaine cartels rose to power in the ‘70s and ‘80s. Pascal will play Javier Pena, a Mexican DEA agent recruited by the U.S. to travel to Colombia to capture and kill the infamous drug kingpin, Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura). The timing of this announcement seems to have been designed to take advantage of Pascal’s newfound popularity after last Sunday’s unforgettable episode of “Game of Thrones.”

Prior to “Game of Thrones,” Pascal appeared in “Homeland,” “The Good Wife,” “The Mentalist,” “Graceland,” “Buffy The Vampire Slayer,” “Red Widow” and the unreleased pilot of “The Sixth Gun,” a comic book adaptation that was produced by NBC.
“Narcos” was written by Chris Brancato and the pilot episode will be directed by Jose Padilha. Netflix is expected to simultaneously premiere every episode of “Narcos” in 2015.
