Canada has a huge fan base of jazz music, which is evident when you take into account the number of jazz festivals that are currently taking place from coast to coast – this weekend is the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival and next weekend it’s the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal.
The line-up for the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival was released a few weeks ago, revealing that stars like Lauryn Hill (of the band The Fugees) would be one of the headlining acts. Jill Barber, Royal Wood, Brandi Disterheft Quartet, Delhi 2 Dublin and Royal Canoe will also take the stage during the 10-day event. Ben Harper and Tegan and Sara will also be there. Meanwhile, further east in Montreal, musicians like Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, BB King, Beck, Ben Harper, Diana Ross, and Elvis Costello will be the main draws at the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, which is running from June 26th until July 6th. Celebrating the 35th anniversary of the event and playing host to a number of iconic crooners including Leonard Cohen, KD Lang, Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, and Ray Charles.
