Daniel Ricciardo Makes Podium At British Grand Prix

Aussie driver Daniel Ricciardo has claimed his fourth podium finish of the Formula One season after grabbing an impressive third at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The Red Bull Racing driver remains third in the drivers’ championship with the result and continues to overshadow teammate and reigning Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel. Ricciardo said he was delighted to snatch third after starting eighth on the grid.

“This has been a good circuit to me,” the 24-year-old from Perth said. “We just held on to the end. One more lap and Jensen (Button) was coming, but I was very happy with the podium.”

Championship leader Lewis Hamiliton was the winner of the race, the British driver claiming an emotional victory in his home country. The Mercedes ace overtook teammate Nico Rosberg on the 31st lap and wasn’t challenged again on his way to taking the chequered flag.

After the race, Hamilton said the Silverstone crowd inspired him. “Today, with my family with me, and support from fans, (it) spurred me on,” he said. “I couldn’t have done it without them.”

Williams driver Valteri Bottas also had a memorable day, finishing second after working his way up from 14th on the grid. The race was marred by a spectacular crash on the first lap, Ferrari’s Kimi Raikonnen escaping with a hurt ankle after hitting the race barriers and rebounding across the track.
