An impatient Australian developer working for Microsoft in Sydney has hacked together his own version of an ABC iView app for Windows Phone 8 and 8.1, called iView FTW!
According to Gizmodo, the ABC has been under increasing pressure for months from Windows Phone 8 users to release an app for its iView platform but has yet to deliver. Microsoft developer Tom Hollander has now taken matters into his own hands, releasing his app iView FTW!
The iView FTW! app works as a functional version of iView that runs on both Windows Phone 8.1 handsets and Windows RT tablets. It contains all the latest shows available in the current ABC iView rotation and allows users to stream the content over both 3G and Wi-Fi networks.
Hollander has previously developed digital radio streaming apps for both ABC Radio and SBS Radio. Gizmodo reports, the iView app does contain some glitches in the video content where some frames move as shots change.
The ABC has said that it wasn’t aware of the iView FTW! app before it became available and confirmed they currently don’t have any plans to develop their own iView app for Windows devices.
