Montreal is one funny city, at least until July 28th – the annual Just For Laughs festival is currently underway, with gala events featuring hilarious heavyweights like Chevy Chase, icon Don Rickles, Andy Samberg, and Seth Rogen.
Bill Burr, Jim Gaffigan, Gabriel Iglesias, and Russell Peters are also big draws for this year’s schedule.
Although many of the gala events come with a ticket price, a lot of the shows are free of charge – everything from live comedy and circus arts to buskers and street dancing can be enjoyed around the festival site downtown at Place des Festivals. The National Bank Club Series will feature three shows, and the ever-popular Nasty Show, hosted by Bobby Slayton, is also back. There will be a live taping of HBO Canada’s “Funny As Hell” as well.
Solo shows at this year’s Just For Laughs include Lewis Black, Ron White, Marc Maron, Jim Jefferies, Aziz Ansari, and Nick Offerman. Canadian comedy favourite Debra DiGiovanni will also host the Homegrown Comic Competition, where the best comics from all over Canada go head to head for the title of Best Homegrown Comic, on Thursday, July 24th.
The Just For Laughs Festival runs from July 9-28. For full schedule listings, tickets, and more, visit the JFL Fest website.
