Desperate times call for desperate measures. At least in the White Sox’s case Tuesday night, they could laugh at theirs.
In a game where the team was down 0-15 and in which starter John Danks gave up nine runs in 4.2 innings, the Sox went through three relievers before opting to pitch Adam Dunn for the ninth inning. Yup, the 6-foot-6 designated hitter who has never thrown a big-league pitch in his 14 year career. That Adam Dunn.
And the results… they weren’t too bad!
Dunn actually threw some strikes, which is all the Sox could have asked for. His final line read one run allowed on two hits, throwing 12 of his 22 pitches for strikes.
The White Sox are out of any playoff race whatsoever and they were down 15 runs. Dunn was also the backup quarterback at Texas. What do they have to lose? I think it was a great move.
