Sharlto Copley Is Christian Walker on ‘Powers’

When “Powers” went to pilot at FX, Jason Patric was originally cast as ex-superhero turned homicide detective, Christian Walker. But when “Powers” makes its premiere on Sony’s Playstation Network this year, there will be a new man in the lead role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, District 9 star Sharlto Copley has been cast as the new Christian Walker on “Powers.” Copley has appeared in the movie adaptation of The A-Team, Elysium and the recently released Maleficent.

“Powers” was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming in 2000 as a comic book series that followed a pair of police detectives in a world where superhuman crime was commonplace. Susan Heyward has already been cast as Walker’s partner, Deena Pilgrim.

The Hollywood Reporter also noted that genre veteran Michelle Forbes has also joined the new incarnation of “Powers” as Retro Girl, a woman described as “the undisputed super star of the Powers community who is an icon of justice, selflessness and business acumen. Her willingness to put herself at risk for the good of others is matched only by her ability to manage her globe-spanning personal brand.”

T-Mobile Girl Carly Foulkes played Retro Girl in the original “Powers” pilot, which suggests a significantly different interpretation of the character in the new series. Forbes has previously appeared in “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” “24,” “True Blood” and “Orphan Black.”

Eddie Izzard, Noah Taylor, Oleysa Rulin, Max Fowler and Adam Godley were all recently added to the cast of “Powers,” which is scheduled to premiere on Playstation Network this December.
