Studio Ghibli Showcase To Tour Australia

With news circling that beloved animators Studio Ghibli may be closing down development on new movies, a local Australian distributor has announced a Studio Ghibli Showcase, where they will screen a selection of more recent Ghibli movies alongside some of the classics.

Madman’s celebration of Studio Ghibli filmmakers, Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, will travel through Australian cinemas from October to December 2014. The showcase will focus on a selection of four Ghibli films, plus two feature length documentaries offering exclusive behind-the-scenes insight into the making of their latest award-winning films.

Those two films are 2013’s The Tale of The Princess Kaguya and The Wind Rises. The other featured films are the two works that made the directors famous, Miyazaki’s My Neighbor Totoro and Takahata’s Grave of the Fireflies, both of which are celebrating their 25 year anniversary.

“Co-founders of renowned Japanese animation house Studio Ghibli, Hayao Miyzakai and Isao Takahata are two of the most celebrated filmmakers of all time,” said Madman. “As creators of some of the most beloved and award-winning animated features the world has known, their legacy is one of unrivalled imagination and unsurpassed excellence.”

From October 9th to 22nd the showcase will be shown at Dendy Newtown in Sydney, Cinema Nova in Melbourne, Dendy Canberra, and Dendy Portside in Brisbane. It will make its way to Perth’s Luna Leederville from November 6th-19th and finish up at Adelaide’s Palace Nova East End from November 27th until December 10th.
